I knew those eyes, that face, those legs. They all came together to form something so familiar to me and yet so strange that I didn't even need to look at the name above the picture. This was it. I'd done it.But I'm jumping ahead of myself. Growing up, I remember my first pet as my horse, Sofie. She was legally mine, and I helped pay for her. Registered as a Half Arabian, I remember my pride when her papers came in the mail listing me as her owner. I was only 13-years-old, and she was 10.She wasn't the perfect child-safe, bombproof horse. As a matter of fact, she taught me a lot about horsemanship; don't take no for an answer, don't accept anything less than perfect and above all do bring treats if you want affection or attention at all. She was then and still is a great horse. She also taught me a lot about patience since sometimes we didn't always see eye to eye.I found out a few years after I bought her that she had been bred before to an Arabian stallion named
Fire An Ice. The resulting foal was a mystery to me, and when I began doing research on it, I discovered it was a filly named Toujour born in 1996. For the next few years, I sporadically looked around for clues as to the whereabouts of the filly because I was contemplating breeding my beloved buddy to another stallion. She was a show horse, being shown on the "A" circuit in dressage and hunter pleasure. And then, one day, I decided to look her up and discovered she was not only alive and well but up for sale in this dwindling economy.I couldn't help myself. E-mailing the
site administrator and trainer in charge of the page, I explained my own situation; that I was her dam's owner and if I had the money she would be perfectly happy to live with her mother. But I know it can't happen. Having looked for this mare since just a few years after purchasing my best four legged friend I almost cried. And the reply I got was nice, which lets me know that Toujour, or "TJ" as she's called, is in good hands. She's been bred, too, and the resulting foal was born in 2005. I'm told he looks just like his dam, which means that he's going to be gorgeous. If only I had the money. And for those who read this blog and think I'm crazy, imagine if you could bring back your first pet ever and get something so close to them it's scary. I mean, people clone their pets all the time.I just want to buy mine's daughter.
