Greetings to all!
The Georgia Southern Symphony is trying to get word of its existence out to the population of Statesboro. It is our goal to update this blog at least once a month to keep the 'Boro informed of our hard work and dedication to our community. We are made up of students from all different colleges of GSU who study privately with members of the music department faculty.
This month we present to you a
Frolicking, Fun-Filled, Free, Family-Friendly "Fang"tasma!
Right now, we are hard at work with the Georgia Southern Opera Program to bring you VAMPirates of Penzance! In honor of Halloween, we will be performing Gillbert and Sullivan's memorable and fun-filled opera "Pirates of Penzance" with a vampire twist. Those who have seen the original will enjoy the subtle differences and twists of this quirky production.
VamPirates of Penzance is also the conducting debut of Nestor Jaenz. Jaenz is a graduate student at Georgia Southern University studying Opera Conducting and Oboe Performance under the Symphony's conductor Maestro Adrian Gnam. We are very pleased with the progress of our aspiring conductor and look forward to more rehearsals and performances with him.
VamPirates of Penzance will have three performances at the Performing Arts Center on GSU's campus at 7:30 in the evening October 27-29 (Thursday-Saturday). Admission is FREE and the show is very family-friendly! This is a great venue to introduce children to the world of music, opera, and theater and the audience is more than welcome to dress in their Halloween best! You are also welcome to come down to the edge of the pit before, during intermission, and after the performance to peek in and see the pit members(Some of us will even be in costume as well!). We would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
We hope to see a full house at these upcoming performances. This will be a great show, certainly not one to miss. Tell your friends and family to come out and support a central part of Stateboro and Bulloch County's fine arts program.
